Range Rover Evoque (2012) long-term test review

It's a shame that the variable-rate Servotronic steering fitted to the test car felt suspiciously light and, yes, indifferent up to 50mph while firming up substantially - especially around the straight-ahead position - at autobahn speeds. The system reduces effort up to 50kmh, but an identically equipped Panamera Turbo (which was parked in the Kacher garage for the last 12 months) was totally devoid of such symptoms, so maybe the GTS kit does entail one or two dynamic idiosyncrasies. 'The almost production-standard Concept Style Coupé sets a new benchmark for avantgarde design in the executive segment,' said Merc design chief Gorden Wagener. 'Its breathtaking proportions, sinewy fluid surfaces and sculptural lines are the physical expression of our dynamic design idiom.' The new name is a move that shadows the structure of the Audi and Mercedes-Benz model ranges. The A5 Sportback, coupe and convertible are all more prestigious and expensive than the more mainstream A4 models, and the E-class Coupe and Cabriolet fetch E-class money in spite of their well-concealed C-class genes. The Beijing show car is clearly heavily based on the earlier Mercedes concept, the F800 Style from 2010. And the production car coming in 2013 will, we hear, shadow the look of the car you see here pretty closely, just like the A-class remained true to its concept car predecessor. One aspect of the K9 which isn't a Hyundai hand-me-down is the car 's styling. The K9 continues the good run of designs under Peter Schreyer's management, and avoids the chintzy details of the Equus. 'The almost production-standard Concept Style Coupé sets a new benchmark for avantgarde design in the executive segment,' said Merc design chief Gorden Wagener. 'Its breathtaking proportions, sinewy fluid surfaces and sculptural lines are the physical expression of our dynamic design idiom.' However, legroom was only adequate when I sat behind myself, my knees just rubbing the seat backs. The view was also of the seat backs – an S-class would feel roomier and less claustrophobic- – and the boot, too, is simply adequate rather than capacious. The figures (445 litres is more 3-series Coupe than S-class) back this up, though the hatch and relatively high floor do make loading your matching leather luggage easy.
